I've made most of these announcements before, but I'll repeat them here because we are reaching the point where they may start affecting long range planning as well as draft and trade decisions.
I plan to keep the VBG going indefinitely. (There was a time when I thought I'd give it up or pass it on to someone else in 1973 because I'd rather go back to the 1920's and start over with a 16-team old-timey league, but now I just want to keep it going.)
I don't plan to expand beyond the current 20 teams, even as MLB adds more teams in future seasons.
We will adopt the DH in some form in 1973, at least for one league. Sometime during the 1969 preseason or season, I will submit 3 options to VBG owners for a vote.
For 1969, even though we will have 4 teams' worth of additional free agents in the pool, the usage limits will still be 150% of real-life PAs or IPs, and the full-time thresholds will stay at 500 PAs and 150 IPs.
Usage limits will drop in 1970 to somewhere between 130% and 135% of real-life PAs/IPs, and then to 125% in 1971-76. I want to wait until after the 1969 draft to get a feel for a reasonable transition level but the full-time thresholds will stay at 500 PAs and 150 IPs.
It is too early to know how we will respond to the 1977 expansion (if we're still going then), but my guess is that we'll transition to a usage limit closer to 110% or 115%.
We will continue to use DMB's Classic Past Season databases through the 1977 season, which is the latest they are available. Beginning in 1978 we'll switch to Deluxe Past Seasons, but if there is a practical way for me to modify the season databases to change real-life splits to generic splits, I will do so. (Most of the DMB users probably know what that means. I'll provide more details as we get closer to 1977.)
For those of you who use the DMB software, it won't matter which versions of the season disks you purchase, because you'll be able to use the VBG league file no matter what version of the season disks you buy.
We'll keep using v.10 software and databases for at least the next few seasons. If someone wants to start using the DMB software for our league, you'll only be able to buy the v.11 game software. However, once you purchase v.11 I am able to give you a copy of the v.10 program if you agree to use it only for VBG business.
